1st Communion Grades 6-12/Primera Comunión de 6º a 12º grado

Youth First Reconciliation & First Eucharist Preparation

Youth Holy Communion is a 2 Year Preparation Program. Preparation for the celebration of the Eucharist and Reconciliation is an integral part of your child’s life. We journey together with you to help prepare your child. This class is for students that have been baptized in the Catholic Church. 

*For unbaptized Youth, we offer (RCIT) Rite of Christian Initiation for Teens. Please click on the RCIT box for more information.

We will be working each week with your Teen looking for:

  • A trust in God’s forgiving love, and express some desire to receive Jesus.
  • The ability to distinguish between ordinary bread and the Eucharist.
  • A sense of belonging to the Church community.
  • An understanding of forgiveness, a desire to give and receive forgiveness.
  • How do they understand sin? The Teen demonstrates the ability to describe wrongdoing in his/her own words.
  • An ability to say, “I’m sorry” to express a sense of repentance.

First Year classes are on Tuesdays from 4:30pm-5:45pm

Second Year classes are on Wednesdays from 4:30pm-5:45pm

Preparación para la Primera Reconciliación y la Primera Eucaristía de los jóvenes

La Santa Comunión de los jóvenes es un programa de preparación de 2 años. La preparación para la celebración de la Eucaristía y la Reconciliación es una parte integral de la vida de su hijo. Viajamos juntos con usted para ayudar a preparar a su hijo. Esta clase es para estudiantes que han sido bautizados en la Iglesia Católica. 

*Para los jóvenes no bautizados, ofrecemos (RCIT) Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adolescentes. Por favor, haga clic en el cuadro de RCIT para obtener más información.

Estaremos trabajando cada semana con su adolescente buscando:

  • Una confianza en el amor perdonador de Dios, y expresar algún deseo de recibir a Jesús.
  • La capacidad de distinguir entre el pan ordinario y la Eucaristía.
  • Un sentido de pertenencia a la comunidad de la Iglesia.
  • La comprensión del perdón, el deseo de dar y recibir el perdón.
  • ¿Cómo entienden el pecado? El adolescente demuestra la capacidad de describir el pecado con sus propias palabras.
  • Capacidad de decir “lo siento” para expresar un sentimiento de arrepentimiento.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation is the beginning of the rest of our lives as Catholics! It is the moment where you stand up for yourself, claiming that God has a primary place in your life and you are choosing to live differently because of that fact. The Holy Spirit, once again, enters your heart and stirs up the gifts God gave you at Baptism to be your truest self. Typically, Catholics are Confirmed as teenagers, and our regular process is open to High School Students as early as Freshman year.

In the Diocese of San Diego, the minimum age for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation is 15, so we encourage teens to consider beginning their preparation as they enter high school. Teens must be in the 9th grade and be at least 13 years of age at the start of classes. Many will go through the preparation process as usual, while others take more time to discern or wait until they are farther into high school to make this commitment.

St. Catherine Labouré offers a 2-year Confirmation preparation process focused on building intentional and personal relationships with God and one another. Sacramento de Confirmación

La Confirmación es el comienzo del resto de nuestras vidas como católicos. Es el momento en el que te haces valer por ti mismo, afirmando que Dios ocupa un lugar primordial en tu vida y que eliges vivir de manera diferente por ese hecho. El Espíritu Santo, una vez más, entra en tu corazón y despierta los dones que Dios te dio en el Bautismo para que seas tu verdadero yo.

Típicamente, los católicos son confirmados cuando son adolescentes, y nuestro proceso regular está abierto a estudiantes de High School desde el primer año.

En la Diócesis de San Diego, la edad mínima para recibir el Sacramento de la Confirmación es de 15 años, por lo que sugerimos a los adolescentes que consideren comenzar su preparación al entrar a la preparatoria. Los adolescentes deben estar en el noveno grado y tener al menos 13 años de edad al inicio de clases. Muchos pasarán por el proceso de preparación como de costumbre, mientras que otros toman más tiempo para discernir o esperar hasta que estén más adelante en la High School para hacer este compromiso.

RCIT - Rite of Catholic Initiation for Teens/Rito de Iniciación Católica para Adolecentes

RCIT is a 2-year program which aims at helping teens become fully initiated Catholics.

This program is for:

  • Children in 6th grade or older who have not been in or have not attended the standard sequence of religion classes and are in need of Sacraments.
  • Teens who have never been baptized or are from other religious faiths and are interested in exploring the possibility of becoming a Catholic.
    • Year 1 is an introductory year, exploring the Roman Catholic Faith, its traditions, practices and beliefs.
    • Year 2 focuses on Morality, the Bible and the Sacraments and their reception.

Catechumens (those not yet baptized) in the 2nd Year usually attend a special meeting with the Bishop (Rite of Election). At the end of the 2nd Year, if ready, they receive all their sacraments at the Easter Vigil. (The Period of the Catechumenate can last for as long as several years or for a shorter time. It depends on how the person is growing in faith, what questions they encounter along the way, and how God leads them on this journey.)

Rito de Iniciación Católica para Adolecentes

RICA es un programa de 2 años que tiene como objetivo ayudar a los adolescentes a convertirse en católicos totalmente iniciados.

Este programa es para:

  • Niños de 6º grado o mayores que no han asistido o no han asistido a la secuencia estándar de clases de religión y necesitan los sacramentos.
  • Adolescentes que nunca han sido bautizados o que pertenecen a otras religiones y están interesados ​​en explorar la posibilidad de convertirse en católicos.
    • El primer año es un año introductorio, explorando la fe católica romana, sus tradiciones, prácticas y creencias.
    • El segundo año se centra en la moralidad, la Biblia y los sacramentos y su recepción.

Los catecúmenos (los que todavía no están bautizados) en el 2º Año suelen asistir a una reunión especial con el Obispo (Rito de Elección). Al final del 2º Año, si están preparados, reciben todos los sacramentos en la Vigilia Pascual. (El período de catecumenado puede durar varios años o menos. Depende de cómo la persona esté creciendo en la fe, de las preguntas que encuentre en el camino y de cómo Dios la guíe en este camino).

 

A todos los adolescentes en el año de la recepción de sus sacramentos se les pedirá que asistan al Retiro de Confirmación y/o Retiro de Primera Comunión.
