They Recognized him in the Breaking of the Bread
This weekend we hear the Gospel story of the Road to Emmaus. On the road, Jesus appeared to the disciples and explained the scriptures to them: how he had to suffer, die, and rise from the dead.
As He explains the Scriptures to them, they begin to understand the true purpose of the Messiah. They only recognize Him when Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. This moment is like solving a crucial puzzle in an escape room – suddenly, everything clicks, and the truth is revealed.
Every time we celebrate the Mass, the same dynamic takes place! Jesus is present to us in the Scriptures proclaimed and in the homily we explain how Jesus fulfills the Scriptures – and our deepest hopes and aspirations; we also give ideas on how we can apply God’s Word to our own lives. Then we move to the altar where he breaks bread for us – in the person of the priest. By faith, we recognize his presence in the Eucharist, and are animated to go forth and tell others the Good News! Some things happening here this week…
· All families are invited to a “Care for the Earth Day” event this Sunday, April 23rd from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall and Plaza area. The Family Life Committee has put together activities for the whole family on how to care for God’s beautiful creation. Pick up your passport and travel all around to stations with games, saving water, planting, crafts, a scavenger hunt and more! The Youth will be selling food too! · The Youth are offering coffee and snacks after the Mass; They are accepting donations to support their ministry.
· The Santa Theresa Women’s Guild of our parish will be hosting a Baby Shower to help women struggling to care for their children (and to help them choose life over abortion). Blankets, diapers, and other items needed by newborn and young children can be brought to the church on the weekend of April 29, 30. See the bulletin for details.

Este domingo en el evangelio hay el Camino a Emaús. En el camino, Jesús se apareció a los discípulos y les explicó las escrituras, cómo tuvo que sufrir, morir, y resucitar de entre los muertos. Luego partió el pan para ellos. En ese momento los discípulos lo reconocieron.
¡Cada vez que celebramos la Misa, tiene lugar la misma dinámica! Jesús está presente para nosotros en las Escrituras proclamadas, y en la homilía explicamos cómo Jesús cumple las Escrituras, y nuestras esperanzas y aspiraciones más profundas; también damos ideas sobre cómo podemos aplicar la Palabra de Dios a nuestras propias vidas. Luego nos movemos al altar donde él parte el pan por nosotros, en la persona del sacerdote. ¡Por la fe, reconocemos su presencia en la Eucaristía, y estamos animados a salir y contar a otros la Buena Nueva! · Todas las familias están invitadas a un evento “Día del Cuidado de la Tierra” este domingo 23 de abril de 12:00 p.m. a 2:00 p.m. en el área del Salón Parroquial y Plaza. El Comité de Vida Familiar ha organizado actividades para toda la familia sobre cómo cuidar la hermosa creación de Dios. ¡Recoja su pasaporte y viaje a las estaciones con juegos, ahorro de agua, siembra, manualidades, una búsqueda del tesoro y más! ¡Los jóvenes también venderán comida! · Los jóvenes ofrecen café y otras comidas después de la misa; acepten sus ofrendas para apoyar su ministerio.
· El Gremio de Mujeres de Santa Teresa de nuestra parroquia organizará un Baby Shower (Evento en apoyo de los bebes) para ayudar a las mujeres que luchan por cuidar a sus hijos (y para ayudarlas a elegir la vida sobre el aborto). Las mantas, pañales y otros artículos necesarios para los recién nacidos y los niños pequeños se pueden llevar a la iglesia el fin de semana del 29 y 30 de abril.
