You were called for freedom, brothers and sisters. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather, serve one another through love.(Galatians 5)
Next weekend we celebrate the Fourth of July, the day of independence of the United States. As Americans, we value very much our independence: the ability to do what I want to, and when I want to. But St. Paul speaks of another type of freedom: we have been set free from sin and selfishness by Christ. True freedom now is to be a slave to love: to serve God and our neighbor with our lives. This is true freedom: an inner freedom that fills oneself and the world with joy and hope.
