We hear today the story of the burning bush: God appeared to Moses and called him to lead his people out of slavery and affliction in Egypt. God also told Moses his name: I AM. God is beyond description or limitation: he just IS. Sometimes we try to limit God or define him in a way that is convenient to us, or that limits what kind of people God loves or cares for. God’s appearance to Moses in the form of the burning bush that is not consumed reminds us that God’s power and energy are limitless. May we always trust in this God who IS, beyond our own limits, failures, and inefficiencies, and beyond the limits and failures of those around us.
