Quinceañera Celebrations at St. Catherine Labouré
The celebration of the girl’s fifteenth birthday is a popular Hispanic, especially Mexican, custom. For the family it is a time of thanking God for a beautiful daughter. For the girl it is a time of rejoicing in one’s youth and asking God’s blessing and guidance as she approaches adulthood.
Although the celebration is not a Sacrament (not a required Rite of Passage in the Catholic Church) is often is celebrated within the context of the Mass. It can also be done within the context of the Liturgy of the Word (Using the Readings from Scripture, but no Communion). In either case it is usually accompanied by the girl’s prayer of dedication and offering flowers to the Virgin as she prays for the Virgin’s guidance and inspiration in her life.

Celebración de la Quinceañera en la Iglesia de St. Catherine Labouré
La celebración del Quinceañera es una costumbre muy popular. Para la familia es un momento de agradecimiento a Dios por una hija hermosa. Para ella es un momento de alegrarse en su juventud y de pedir la bendición y dirección de Dios mientras se acerca a la edad adulta.
Aunque la celebración no es un Sacramento (no un rito necesario de iniciación en la iglesia católica) a menudo se celebran dentro del contexto de la Misa. También se puede hacer en el contexto de la Liturgia de la Palabra (usando las lecturas de las escrituras, pero sin recibir La Comunión). En cualquier caso, es generalmente acompañado por la oración de dedicación a Dios por la joven y la ofrenda de flores a la Virgen mientras ella reza por la guía y la inspiración de la Virgen en su vida.
