Fifth Sunday of Lent – Year C
I consider everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ
and be found in him… (Philippians 3)
Do you have Insurance? Fire Insurance. Car Insurance. Health Insurance. So much money and human effort is spent on Insurance, and it can sure save us when disaster strikes. But St. Paul reminds us here that sometimes it is belter to lose and not seek to regain what you have lost, for the sake of something, or someone, better. When people get married, they give up their former single life, and even the house they
were living in, to start a new life together.
During Lent we are invited to give up some of our former ways of life, our habits or values, so as to spend more time and energy on knowing Christ, on having a relationship with Jesus Christ. Many Christians like to ask: “Do you know/have you accepted/ Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?” Paul accepted Jesus and his Lord and it changed his whole life and value system. Let us be sure our “Eternal Life” Insurance policy is in good order by opening our hearts and lives more deeply to Christ, even if it means
countng others things or some of our human relatonships as a loss.
