Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 1, 2010

Mission Cooperation Plan

 Appeal 2010

This weekend, July 31st and August 1st,

we will welcome Fr. Michael T. White, C.S.Sp. to preach at all the Masses on behalf of the missionary work of his religious

community the Congregation of the Holy Spirit.

The Spiritans were founded in 1703 to serve

God’s people who have never heard the Gospel, to those in our world who suffer the most because of poverty and injustice,

and wherever the Church finds it difficult to minister.

The Spiritan community now numbers over 4,000 priests, brothers and lay missionaries (with almost 900 seminarians in formation!) working in nearly seventy countries. Your awareness, prayers and   financial assistance will assist them in fulfilling our mission as a Church – to reach out to the lost, the least and the left out of our global family. Spiritans go to people, not primarily to accomplish the task, but rather to be with them, live with them, accompany them, listen to them, and share with them. At the heart of their relationship is truth, respect, and love.

Fr. Mike is a familiar face here at the parish,  assisting from time to time with Sunday liturgies. He is a native of Riverside, CA, and after his studies and ordination, he served as a missionary in Brazil.  Fr. Mike returned to the USA when he was appointed director and taught at the Spiritan seminary in Houston, TX prior to being elected three times to serve as provincial superior of the Spiritans. In that assignment he was responsible for the personnel and resources for their missionary efforts. Since 1995 he has served as a teacher and chaplain at both USDHS and the University of San Diego.

Special collection envelopes are in the pews and vestibule of the Church.

"For the Spiritans, the journey into the future is not a guided tour, but rather an around-the-world adventure. On this adventure, the Holy Spirit is in charge, and the needs of the people on the side of the road will determine the stops made. 'We go where the Spirit leads us.'  Our mission is consistent; we respond to our changing world.”
